Evaluation of Gastro-protective Activity of Red-cabbage Against Indomethacin Induced Ulcer in Rats

Background and objective: The red cabbage (Brassica oleracea Linn var. capitata) is a leafy green biennial plant that contains beta-carotene, vitamin C fibre. It used in cooking for its nutritional value has known anti-inflammatory activity.This study compared the antiulcerogenic activity of Aqueous Extract Brassica (AEB) capitata with Misoprostol.Materials Method: Acute gastric ulcers were induced albino rats by oral administration indomethacin. gastroprotective potential AEB(250,500 1000 mg/kg body weight) was Misoprostol (100?g/kg weight). Results:A significant reduction mean number lesions observed high dose AEB (0.83 +/- 0.75) indomethacin (4.00 1.26). Mean similar misoprostol groups (1.50 0.55) medium (1.77 0.41).No low (3.00 0.63) Inhibition percentage maximum (97.71%) minimum (28.08%).Conclusions: demonstrated good activities which justify inclusion this management disorders. Further experiments are underway to determine anti-ulcer mechanisms involved gastroprotection.
